Lisa Bailey grew up in rural Montana at the foot of the Rockies. At 21, she escaped to NYC via San Francisco to attend the Neighborhood Playhouse. Lisa would stay in NYC for the next 30 years, learning about what it means to be “white” and getting involved in multiple social justice communities. She has been married twice, first for a short time to a Venezuelan, who is the father of her son. They had to navigate incarceration for crimes he did not commit more than once, which also opened her eyes to the racism of the “justice” system.

When her son was 15, Lisa remarried a Unitarian Universalist minister and son of Harlem lawyers, with 3 children and a granddaughter, so they gained an instant family! It did not come without its challenges, and learning about what it means to enter a Black family as a “white” woman has allowed for them to be not only successful, but happy and thriving as a family, battling oppressive systems together.

In addition to being a mom/step-mom/step-grandma; Lisa is also a writer, an actor, a comedian and an antiracist activist. When she’s not actively dismantling the heteronormative patriarchy or white supremacy with her husband on their YouTube channel, The Bailey View, she’s leading the charge for medical equity as the Advocacy Manager for Axis Advocacy, actively participating with SURJ (Showing Up for Racial Justice) chapters in Los Angeles and Las Vegas, or walking her dog in Griffith Park. Lisa’s mission is to inspire others to take a path towards antiracism in an effort to change the world as we build communities to not only care about one another, but also celebrate collective liberation in love.
