Nourishing Hope

How am I feeding despair and what practices might help me nourish a resilient, active hope?

Hope is not a mood, it is a muscle. It must be fed, watered, and tended, especially in seasons of despair. Nourishing hope is the act of choosing life, again and again, even when we are tired. It is planting seeds we may never see bloom, and trusting that beauty will rise from the compost of what has been lost. This month, we ask how we sustain ourselves and one another not through toxic positivity, but through honest, steady acts of courage, care, and imagination.

Celebrating Diversity – Earth and Spirit: Sacred Stories of Sustainability

April invites us into reverence. It is a time to remember that the Earth is not a resource to be consumed; it is a living web of relationships to which we belong. Across cultures and faith traditions, caring for the land has always been inseparable from caring for one another.

This month, BridgesUU is centering the Indigenous, cultural, and faith based practices that embody ecological justice and interdependence. These are the stories of land protectors, spiritual leaders, earth tenders, and artists who remind us how to live in balance with the world around us.

Sunday Celebrations Overview

NOTE: BridgesUU does not host Sunday Celebrations. We offer administrative resources and support to our covenanting congregations that include monthly and weekly blurbs, Celebration Outlines, Sunday Scripts, Musical Selections, Celebrating Our Youth Stories, Activies, and Resources, as well as, Multimedia Decks.

This month, all services follow our theme “Nourishing Hope,” asking: How am I feeding despair and what practices might help me nourish a resilient, active hope?

From rising against empire on Easter, to practices of regeneration, to our Earth Day Water Communion, and imagining the future we are building together, we will explore hope as something we cultivate through courage, care, and action.

Together, we remember that hope is not passive; it is something we choose, nurture, and bring to life.

Sunday Celebrations

Sun, Apr 05, 2026 – Rising Against Empire
Easter, in the Unitarian Universalist tradition, is not only a story of resurrection; it is a story of resistance. It reminds us that love cannot be crucified forever, and that systems of domination do not have the final word. This Sunday, we reclaim Easter as a call to rise against empire in all its forms, nurturing hope through acts of justice, courage, and collective liberation.

Sun, Apr 12, 2026 – Regeneration
As the earth awakens, we are invited into the sacred work of renewal. Spring teaches us that life returns, even after long winters, and that growth requires patience, care, and trust. This service explores how we prepare our spirits and our community for the seasons ahead. Planting seeds now will sustain us into summer and beyond.

Sun, Apr 19, 2026 – Waters of Hope (Water Communion)
In this Earth Day season, we gather for our Water Communion, bringing together waters that tell the stories of our lives and our shared commitments. We invite congregants to bring water not only as symbol, but as offering to support our unhoused neighbors and reminding us that access to clean water is a matter of justice. Like April showers that nourish the earth, our collective care becomes a source of hope, sustaining both community and creation.

Sun, Apr 26, 2026 – Building the Future Together
Hope is not passive; it is something we create. This Sunday, we turn to imagination as a spiritual practice, asking how we can shape a future rooted in justice, compassion, and shared responsibility. Together, we explore what it means to build hope through action, trusting that even small acts of courage can ripple outward into transformation.

BridgesUU: 3010: Rise Up

Rise up, rise up,
We stand in spite of fear.
Our love, our hope,

Like dawn that ends the night.
Our love, our hope,
Will guide us toward the light.

LifeSpan Learning

In our UU journey, we learn that hope is like a seed we can help grow with care, love, and courage. This month, out children will explore how to find nourishing hope, even when times feel hard. We’ll discover how hope can grow stronger when we share it together.
