Liberating Our Theologies
What beliefs or assumptions have I inherited that I am now being called to question or transform in hopes of creating a more inclusive world?

Our theologies; the stories we tell ourselves about meaning, divinity, humanity, and power can either bind us or set us free. This month, we turn toward the liberating edge of our tradition, asking what beliefs we’ve inherited that no longer serve our lives, and what new theologies are emerging to guide us.
Liberation theology is not abstract; it is rooted in bodies, in communities, in struggle. It calls us to center the voices long silenced and to imagine a faith that is bold enough to grow, brave enough to repent, and be visionary enough to build a freer, more inclusive, world.

Celebrating Diversity March 2026 Intro: “HerStories: Women, Wisdom, and Waves of Change”
History has never been shaped by a single voice. It has always been formed by a chorus; by women and gender expansive people whose wisdom, courage, and creativity moved cultures forward, often without recognition or reward. This March, BridgesUU invites you into a month of HerStories: Women, Wisdom, and Waves of Change.
Throughout Women’s History Month, we center lesser known cis women, trans women, and nonbinary change makers from around the world whose lives shaped culture, science, art, spirituality, and justice. We are reclaiming stories often pushed to the margins; not because they lacked impact, but because power decided whose voices were remembered. By bringing these names into our collective memory, we ensure the chorus can be heard in its fullness.

Sunday Celebrations Overview
NOTE: BridgesUU does not host Sunday Celebrations. We offer resources including monthly and weekly blurbs, Celebration Outlines, Sunday Scripts, Musical Selections, Celebrating Our Youth Stories, Activies, and Resources, as well as, Multimedia Decks.
This month, our theme is “Liberating Our Theologies,” asking: What beliefs or assumptions have I inherited that I am now being called to question or transform in hopes of creating a more inclusive world?
Through reflections on meaning, divinity, humanity, power, and creation, lifting up voices from liberation, womanist, mujerista, trans, labor, and eco-theologies, we explore how faith can bind us or set us free.
Together, we dare to imagine a theology bold enough to grow, brave enough to repent, and visionary enough to help build a more just and loving world.
Sunday Celebrations
Sun, Mar 01, 2026 – Meaning: Choosing Our Response
What gives life meaning in a world shaped by suffering and uncertainty? Drawing on the wisdom of Viktor Frankl, Etty Hillesum, and Toni Morrison, we explore how meaning is not something we passively receive but something we actively create. This Women’s History Month, we center voices that refuse despair and instead choose love, courage, and responsibility. Meaning is not escape from the world, it is engagement in healing it.
This Sunday we explore how liberation theologies help us reclaim meaning not as quiet endurance, but as active participation in healing the world. Meaning is not escape. Meaning is engagement. Meaning is choosing love, always.
Sun, Mar 08, 2026 – Divinity: Where Do We Find the Holy?
What images of the Divine have shaped us and which ones are we ready to release? This Sunday we explore how theologians like Delores Williams, Ada María Isasi-Díaz, and Julian of Norwich invite us to reimagine divinity as relational, embodied, and rooted in everyday life. If the sacred lives in every body, how might that transform how we treat one another? Together, we liberate our theology of the Holy and rediscover the Divine as connection rather than control.
Sun, Mar 15, 2026 – Humanity: Sí Se Puede – Springing Toward Celebration
On the Spring Equinox, we honor César Chávez and Dolores Huerta and reflect on what it means to be fully human in a world that ranks and divides us. Liberation theology insists that every person bears sacred dignity, especially those pushed to the margins. “Sí se puede” is not just a rallying cry; it is a theological claim that celebrates the humanity of all people. As the light grows longer, we ask what new vision of humanity is rising within us for the liberation of all people through love, courage, and persistence.
Sun, Mar 22, 2026 – Power: Visible, Vulnerable, and Transformed
On Transgender Day of Visibility, we confront the ways religion has misused power and imagine what redeemed power might look like. Inspired by voices like Kelly Brown Douglas and contemporary trans theologians, we ask whether true power lies not in domination, but in authenticity and solidarity. What if visibility itself is sacred resistance? This Sunday calls us to live boldly for dignity, truth, and shared leadership.
Sun, Mar 29, 2026 – Creation & Intergenerational Liberation: The Lorax and the Beloved Community
In this intergenerational service inspired by The Lorax, we explore what it means to inherit both the beauty and brokenness of creation. Eco-theologian Sallie McFague and young climate activists remind us that the earth is not property; it is relationship!
Together, we will reflect on the theology that shaped our environmental crisis and imagine a faith rooted in stewardship and reciprocity. The Lorax does not give up and neither do we.

Liberation’s Dawn
Words and Music by Paul Ermisch
Verse 1
Scarred but unbroken, we build toward liberation,
Bound by honest love that holds us to our calling.
We will not be broken by the struggles that have marked us,
For love alone will carry us to freedom.
Chorus
We will walk this road together, guided by each other’s hand.
We’ll rise and stumble, bracing through the storm,
To reach our liberation’s dawn.
Verse 2
Bearing our kindness boldly as we struggle,
For humble, fierce commitment keeps us bound together.
Choosing compassion over pride through every trial,
Grace and mercy light the way to freedom.
Verse 3
Freed from the shadows that narrow and divide us,
We lay down our stories that keep us small and scattered.
Our eyes are opened wide to see each other truly,
Awe and wonder leading us to freedom.
May these songs inspire us to walk boldly into spring’s light.

LifeSpan Learning
In this month, we explore big ideas about what is sacred, what is true, and how we find meaning together! We’ll celebrate that there are many ways to believe and that everyone’s voice matters. Our children will learn how Unitarian Universalism encourages us to think freely, love boldly, and grow our own beliefs in community.
