Harvesting Tomorrow – Carrying Kinship Forward

As we close this month of reflection, we remember that kinship is not a metaphor-it’s a way of life. Every story, song, and seed we’ve honored this month calls us to live into deeper relationship-with land, ancestors, and one another.

Future-Building through Wisdom

“Harvesting Kinship” is not about nostalgia. It is about future-building-about carrying forward Indigenous wisdom that teaches balance, gratitude, and shared responsibility. This wisdom offers practical, enduring principles for addressing climate change, social injustice, and the fragmentation of modern life.

Act with Reciprocity

As Unitarian Universalists, our faith in interdependence becomes real when we act from kinship, not charity. May we continue to cultivate relationships rooted in respect, reciprocity, and reverence for life, ensuring that the work begun this month continues throughout the year.

“Kinship is not given-it is grown through acts of care.” – Dr. Kim TallBear. Citizen of the Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate in present day South Dakota, USA and Professor in the Department of American Indian Studies, University of Minnesota

Reflection: How will you harvest kinship in your life and community?
