A Hymn-A-Month

Sep 2025
I hope everyone had a great summer. Growing up in El Paso, Texas I only knew long hot summers. Now, after 40+ years here in Colorado, I still despair at the “short” summers here. The milder temperatures make up for it though.
For the coming year, Pastor AJ has put me on a “hymn-a-month” plan. He challenged me to write a new hymn for each month of the 2025-26 season. I started composing music while in my teens but never really gave it a chance. The goal of regularly composing new music is a fun challenge and is helping me realize that I miss this kind of creativity.
For September, our theme is Covenant; an ongoing practice of returning to our values and our communities to better ourselves. I’ve composed a hymn titled “More Than Words.” It’s a short and simple hymn about covenant and its meaning in our spiritual life. We’ll be featuring this new congregational song in every service of the month. I hope you enjoy singing its simple, but meaningful words as much as I do.
Next month, October, the theme is Faith and how it helps us in uncertain times. If you are passionate about music, have ideas for words and music that inspires your faith, please do not hesitate to reach out.
In faith,
Paul
